Separate stems with BRAVO

When you need the vocal on its own, the beat without it or the drums for a remix, drop the song into BRAVO's chat and ask it to separate the stems. BRAVO splits it on your Mac with htdemucs (Demucs v4) into four stems: vocals, drums, bass and the rest.

What you ask

In BRAVO's chat, or from your own AI once it is connected:

  • Separate the vocals from the beat.
  • Separate the stems.
  • Remove the vocals from this song.

What you get back

  • Four WAV files: vocals, drums, bass and other (everything else).
  • A new BRAVO project next to your song, named after it, with each stem on its own track from bar 1 and the WAVs copied into the project's folder. Your original is not touched.
  • In the chat: the four files, «Show in Finder», «Open in BRAVO» and how loud each stem is against the mix.

How to do it

  1. Drop the song into Home. Open BRAVO and press Home. Drop the mixed song into the chat.
  2. Ask for the separation. Say «separate the vocals from the beat» or «separate the stems». BRAVO separates it on your Mac and shows the progress; it can take about as long as the song lasts.
  3. Use the stems. Open the folder with «Show in Finder», or press «Open in BRAVO» to work on the stems in the editor.

Limits

  • Separation is done by a neural network: some bleed between stems is normal, more on dense mixes.
  • Four stems: vocals, drums, bass and other. Guitars, keys and the rest stay in other.
  • One separation at a time. If this Mac does not have the separation model yet, BRAVO says so instead of offering the job.
  • Beta: Mac with Apple Silicon only. Windows comes later.
  • Access opens by waves from the waiting list.
  • BRAVO works on the audio you bring. It does not generate songs.

Frequently asked questions

Is my song uploaded?

No. BRAVO separates it on your Mac and the audio stays on your computer.

How is this different from «export stems»?

Export stems writes one WAV per track of a project you already have. Separating stems starts from one mixed song and pulls the vocals, drums, bass and the rest out of it.

Which model does it use?

htdemucs, the four-stem Demucs v4 model (MIT licence), running on your Mac.

BRAVO is a free beta for Mac with Apple Silicon. Access opens by waves from the list.
