Bio

Kapote is the DJ and producer alias of Mathias Modica, the multi-instrumentalist, keyboard wizard and creative head behind Berlin's Toy Tonics records (and the earlier Gomma label). A jazz-rooted musician and obsessive music aficionado, he makes funky, organic dance music that blends New York house, Italo disco, nu-disco, lo-fi and jazz-funk — full of live keyboard and synth solos, percussion and bass. His acclaimed 'Italomania' series and the 2025 album 'Para Mytho Disco' fuse red-hot Italo passion with 90s electronica and club versions, while his ongoing 'Mushroom House' and 'Wildstyle House' compilations have helped define the Toy Tonics sound worldwide. Beyond his own records he is the curator and A&R steering one of independent dance music's most distinctive labels, with a deep catalogue of 50+ releases and a relentless 2026 run of singles and remixes.
