August Fanon is a hip-hop producer originally from Oakland, California, now based in Brooklyn, NYC. He began making beats in 2006 after reconnecting with jazz and underground hip-hop during graduate school, citing MF DOOM, Little Brother, and People Under the Stairs as formative influences. His sample-heavy production fuses soul, jazz, and rock textures with the boom bap and 2006-era underground sound, blending soulful samples with intricate rhythms and deep musical-history references. He has produced extensively for and alongside artists including Mach-Hommy, Armand Hammer, ELUCID, Navy Blue, Fly Anakin, Blu, Vic Spencer, and ANKHLEJOHN, and runs his own imprint BlackKidsProductions, which released the vinyl edition of Otherwise a Blur with blackchai in 2024. Fanon is one of the most prolific underground producers working today, with 30+ albums, EPs, and beat tapes across Spotify and Bandcamp and a steady stream of collaborative drops including the Psychological Cheat Sheet series, Forty (with Blu, 2025), and Live! At the Disco (2025).
