Yosi Horikawa is a Japanese musician and sound designer who builds compositions from meticulous field recordings, nature sounds, and the resonance of everyday objects. He grew up in Osaka and started making music at age 12 by recording rice boxes, soup-stock bags, and chopsticks onto home tape decks before moving to Tokyo at 18 to study architecture and acoustics. After his 2010 debut EP 'Touch' on French label Eklektik Records, he signed to London's First Word Records and released the EP 'Wandering' (2012) and the album 'Vapor' (2013) — named one of the best albums of 2013 by Fact Magazine and Japan Times. In 2019 he co-founded the label Borrowed Scenery with longtime collaborator Daisuke Tanabe and released 'Spaces'. His most recent album 'Impulse' (September 2025) is presented in Dolby Atmos immersive audio, with field recordings captured by 360-degree microphones and arranged across a system of ten speakers in his Tokyo studio. He has performed at Red Bull Music Academy Madrid, MUTEK Montréal, and the Spatial Sound Institute.
