PRODUCER · COMPOSER · GUITARIST · MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST

William Armistead Tyler (born December 25, 1979, Nashville, Tennessee) is an American guitarist, composer, and producer who has spent three decades at the forefront of American experimental and instrumental music. He is a former member of Lambchop (1998–2010) and Silver Jews (2001–2009), and his solo work — spanning seven albums on Merge Records, Tompkins Square, and Psychic Hotline — blends sparse American Primitive guitar, pastoral folk, ambient soundscape, and cosmic country into a sound that is entirely his own. Tyler composed the celebrated soundtrack for Kelly Reichardt's film First Cow (2019) and has produced albums for fellow artists, including Jake Xerxes Fussell's debut. His most recent album Time Indefinite (April 2025, Psychic Hotline) was produced with longtime collaborator Jake Davis and Alex Somers, and built around vintage tape loops discovered in his late grandfather's home. He also released 41 Longfield Street Late '80s in September 2025, a collaboration with Four Tet (Kieran Hebden). Based between Nashville and Los Angeles, Tyler is equally respected as a solo artist and as a producer and collaborator for others.
