Unknown Caller is the moniker of Brooklyn-based producer and songwriter Alex Lichtenstein — a true DIY artist who writes, records, and produces everything from his apartment, building dreamy, analog-tinged indie pop inspired by Japanese city pop, yacht rock, and bedroom pop. Since his 2016 debut EP Columns he evolved from lo-fi beats into danceable, hook-laced gems like Borderline and See You Again, sharing stages with Danz CM (fka Computer Magic) and FM Attack across NYC and LA. His 2021 vaporwave project Midnight Deluxe (Business Casual) sold out its cassette run in its debut weekend and earned a Bandcamp homepage feature; he later performed DJ sets across Tokyo's underground scene in Shibuya, Roppongi, and Shinjuku. On Stereofox Records he released the collaborative Hung Up EP with Melting Resonance — his most popular release to date — plus the Boyan collaboration Wait (August 2025), while June 2026 single Every Night keeps a steady release cadence. With over 3 million streams across platforms, Spotify Fresh Finds and Indie Chillout editorial support, BBC Radio and US college radio airplay, and a self-curated playlist, he runs his world from callunknown.com.
