umru (Umru Rothenberg) is an Estonian-American producer and DJ based in Brooklyn, New York. He first gained traction as a teenager posting trap- and bass-influenced beats to SoundCloud, where PC Music founder A. G. Cook discovered him and brought him into the orbit that would become hyperpop. He earned his first major credits at 18 producing on Charli XCX's 2017 mixtape Pop 2, and has since contributed writing and production for Charli XCX (including how i'm feeling now), Caroline Polachek, Dorian Electra, Hannah Diamond, Slayyyter, Tommy Cash, Brooke Candy and Chase Icon. He released his debut full-length comfort noise in March 2022 with features from Tommy Cash, 645AR, Cecile Believe, Rebecca Black, Fraxiom, Tony Velour, emotegi and Ravenna Golden, followed by a remix companion later that year. He is signed to LuckyMe Records, which released his 2025 EP Matter of Time, and has been affiliated with the PC Music collective. Alongside production he is known for a hectic, genre-jumping DJ style and recent singles like Lose Control (2026) and Open! feat. なかむらみなみ (2026) keep him highly active.
