Shin-Ski
Shin-Ski (real name Shinsuke Taoka) is a Japanese producer, beatmaker, and DJ from Amagasaki City in Hyogo, who has been a household name in Japanese hip-hop since the 2000s. He blends hip-hop, jazz, and techno into what he calls cosmic soundscapes, citing Steve Reich's minimalism as a core influence — 'to me, that's the ultimate loop music.' Beyond his solo catalogue of over a dozen albums (Jazz in Time, Flowery Breaks, Jazz Things, Dawn Milky, Virtuality on Rucksack Records, Shattered Soul On A Pastel Sky, PLANETARIUM, MEMORIES), he records as part of ShinSight Trio with DJ RYOW and US emcee Insight, and in production units Martiangang and Levitatorz. He has produced audio content for brands including The North Face and Fuji Film and remixed Japanese rock bands. Self-taught originally, he relocated to the United States in 1995 for formal music studies before returning to Japan to launch his production career, and continues to release new music regularly — his latest single 'Movin'' dropped April 22, 2026.
