Diego Placeres is an award-winning composer, musician, and DJ with a multicultural background shaped by years of living and creating across different countries and continents. Born in Brazil to Uruguayan parents, he has lived and worked in cities such as Montréal and Gothenburg, and is currently based in Uruguay, where he develops projects at the intersection of music, film, and performance. His work gained international recognition with the score for A Savana e a Montanha (2024), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival (Quinzaine des Cinéastes) and received awards including Best Original Score at the Prisma Film Awards in Rome in 2025. In 2026, Diego was nominated as best Soundtrack Composer at Sofia Awards in Lisbon. He continues to collaborate with filmmakers on projects ranging from feature films to animation. As a multi-instrumentalist, Diego leads the band The Royal Thieves, with whom he has released several records and toured internationally. In 2023, the band toured South America supporting the French group La Femme. He has also collaborated with Björn Olsson, as well as Will Berman (MGMT). His work translates diverse sonic influences—from contemporary pop to folkloric traditions—into emotional, minimalistic, and melody-driven compositions, often balancing baroque pop harmonies with cinematic, dreamlike atmospheres.
