Bio

Phoniks (Ian McGinley) is a hip-hop producer and beatmaker from Portland, Maine, known for a vintage 90's boom-bap production style built on melodic jazz and soul samples. He co-founded the jazz-infused hip-hop label Don't Sleep Records with Virginia emcee Awon, putting out limited-edition vinyl and a steady stream of instrumental and collaborative projects. Over the past decade his original beats and acclaimed remixes of artists like Wu-Tang Clan and The Notorious B.I.G. have amassed well over 100 million plays. He has built a deep catalog alongside collaborators such as Awon and Anti-Lilly, with full-length projects including 'Golden Era 2', 'The Next Chapter' and 2025's 'All Good Things'. Phoniks was also featured in the award-winning Netflix and Red Bull TV documentary 'Underdogs: A Unique Hip Hop Story'. He remains highly active, dropping new music into 2026 with singles like 'Cursive Curls'.
