Mitchum Yacoub is an Egyptian-American multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ based in San Diego, California, crafting a vibrant blend of Afrobeat, Afro-Latin percussion, cumbia and horn-driven tropical funk he calls 'world soul dance music.' Drawing on Fela Kuti, Dr. Dre and James Brown, he builds dense, percussive arrangements that fuse African and Latin traditions with hip-hop's low end. His ensemble has shared stages and studios with Tinariwen, Thievery Corporation and The Wailers, and he toured playing percussion with Fela's legendary band Egypt 80 in support of Seun Kuti. His debut album 'Living High in the Brass Empire' (2023) earned spins from KEXP, BBC6 and KCRW, and he returned in May 2026 with his second album, 'A Way In,' on Colemine Records. Known for staging a 'village on stage,' Yacoub is carving a singular path through the global-funk underground.
