McZee

Tinotenda Machida, professionally known as McZee, is a Zimbabwean music producer, beatmaker, and Hip-Hop creative from Harare, Zimbabwe.** A self-taught producer with deep roots in Zimbabwean Hip-Hop, McZee has built a distinctive production identity around heavy 808s, hard-hitting drums, dark melodies, atmospheric textures, and rhythmic experimentation.

McZee's journey into music production began at a remarkably young age. **At just 12 years old, he was introduced to music production software by his uncle, Simon Bere, and got his hands on MAGIX Music Maker, his first Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).** That early exposure sparked a fascination with creating music on a computer and laid the foundation for what would eventually become a lifelong pursuit of music production.

From there, a close friend introduced him to **FL Studio 5**, letting McZee explore beatmaking more deeply and develop his skills through experimentation. As a self-taught producer, he learned by constantly creating, studying sounds, experimenting with arrangements, and developing his own approach to Hip-Hop production.

Before establishing himself primarily as a producer, McZee started out as a **rapper**. However, as his musical journey progressed, his natural ability and growing passion for beatmaking began to outshine his work on the microphone. What initially started as an interest in creating music for himself gradually evolved into a deeper commitment to beatmaking, production, songwriting, arrangement, and sound creation.

A major turning point came in **2012**, when McZee was given an opportunity to join the renowned Zimbabwean music collective and label **The Mix Masters** by its owner, **Shingarayi “Shayzar” Zimanyi**. The opportunity marked an important step in his development as a professional music producer and gave him a platform to work within Zimbabwe's developing Hip-Hop and urban music scene.

His involvement with The Mix Masters led to his **first debut production single**, an important milestone that went on to receive **multiple radio plays**, introducing McZee's production to a wider Zimbabwean audience and establishing an early foundation for his career as a producer.

Over the years, McZee has continued to evolve his sound across **Trap, Boom Bap, Drill, R&B, and contemporary Hip-Hop**, while exploring the fusion of traditional Zimbabwean musical influences with modern production techniques. His creative approach has also led to the development of his **“Chimurenga Trap”** concept, exploring the combination of Zimbabwean and African musical elements, instrumentation, polyrhythms, and modern Trap production.

As McZee, Tinotenda Machida has collaborated with and produced for artists from Zimbabwe and beyond, continuing to build a catalog rooted in Hip-Hop while remaining open to experimentation and new sounds. His production credits and collaborations include artists such as **Jnr Brown, Cal_Vin, Takura, Gigi LaMayne, Michael Chiunda, Synik, Soko Matemai (formerly Sharky), Savage, Karma, Dj Naida, Kidd Aktive**, and others.

Today, **McZee continues to build a global presence as a Zimbabwean Hip-Hop producer and beatmaker**, connecting his roots in Zimbabwean Hip-Hop with contemporary global sounds. His journey from a 12-year-old experimenting with MAGIX Music Maker, to discovering FL Studio 5, transitioning from rapper to producer, and eventually earning opportunities within Zimbabwe's professional music scene reflects a lifelong commitment to music, creativity, innovation, and the evolution of African Hip-Hop.
