Makzo

Bio

Makzo is the project of Zack Mortimer, a Canadian-born, London-based producer who puts a modern twist on an old-school sound — chill hip hop fused with jazz, R&B and electronic elements. Born and raised in Toronto and now based in London, he has released music as Makzo since 2017 and amassed over 50 million streams across platforms. His beats draw on influences like J Dilla, 9th Wonder and Ta-ku, and have landed with curators and labels including Chillhop and College Music, where he also works as A&R. He stays remarkably prolific: his latest album 'Pavement' dropped in May 2026 alongside a steady run of 2026 singles such as 'Frayed', 'Orizuru' and 'Backwoods'. With 169k+ monthly listeners on Spotify and a catalogue of 70+ releases, Makzo is a working mid-tier producer with a deep, consistently growing body of instrumental and feature work.
