Lawrence English is an Australian composer, media artist, curator and mastering engineer based in Brisbane, working across ambient, drone, electroacoustic and musique concrete. He is the director of the acclaimed imprint Room40 (est. 2000), which has released over 300 works by artists including Grouper, Ben Frost, Oren Ambarchi and Motion Sickness Of Time Travel, and he masters extensively for the label and the wider experimental field using a carefully developed mastering chain. His own work is concerned with the politics of perception and the bodily experience of sound, realised through immersive installations and a deep recorded catalogue with new music in 2026. He holds a PhD from Queensland University of Technology and is one of the most respected figures in contemporary experimental sound.
