Jay Som is the recording alias of Melina Duterte (born 1994, Walnut Creek, California), a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and mixing engineer. She began writing and recording as Jay Som in 2015, self-recording debut cassettes from her bedroom that led to a deal with Polyvinyl Records. Her critically acclaimed albums Everybody Works (2017) and Anak Ko (2019) cemented her reputation as an indie pop visionary, with the 2025 record Belong — featuring Paramore's Hayley Williams and Jimmy Eat World's Jim Adkins — marking her long-awaited return.
