Birocratic
Birocratic is the moniker of Brandon Rowan, a Brooklyn-based producer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist who has been releasing jazz-leaning instrumental hip-hop since 2012. Originally from New Jersey, he came up self-releasing dorm-room beat tapes while studying at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music (BFA, 2015), where the early 'Beets' and 'Leftovers' YouTube uploads turned into a cult catalog. His ongoing 'Beet Tape' series — beets, beets 2, beets 3 and beets 4, plus their 'Leftovers' companions — is sold direct-to-fan on Bandcamp, with later editions pressed on splatter vinyl. Alongside his solo work he has spent years as Chillhop Music's in-house mastering engineer and remains a frequent Chillhop artist, while also session-bassing for indie and R&B projects in NYC. His sound blends laptop production with live electric bass and dusty jazz samples, and his catalog is licensed by creators worldwide because he keeps it ContentID-free. Recent releases include the collaborative 'Baloney Syrup' with G Mills and K-Magic (Jan 2026) and the single 'Principled' (April 2026).
