Antonio Sánchez is a five-time Grammy Award-winning drummer and composer based in New York City, widely recognized as one of the most sought-after jazz percussionists on the international scene. Born in Mexico City, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory and became a U.S. citizen in 2016. He spent 18 years as the primary drummer for Pat Metheny, recording nine albums together, while simultaneously building a solo career and a film scoring practice. His score for Alejandro González Iñárritu's Birdman (2014), recorded entirely on solo drums in real-time, won a Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media and was hailed as a compositional breakthrough. Sánchez later scored Get Shorty (Netflix) and Apple TV+'s critically acclaimed industry satire The Studio (2025), for which he received his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series. His album Bad Hombre was Grammy-nominated, and he continues to lead his band Migration.
