Aguava is the project of Brooklyn-based producer Allen Chen, blending Afro-Cuban jazz, bossa nova, disco, and 90s house into forward-thinking retro grooves. Born in Shanghai and raised on Chinese folk music plus classical piano and guitar, he started producing at UNC-Chapel Hill and chose music over dental school. His catalogue spans jazz-house and lo-fi house releases like the Cuando Sueño EP, Flying Fish (with trumpeter Paul Giess), Willy Nilly, Home Again, and the Boleta EP, plus remixes for artists including Adam Swim. Supported by outlets such as EARMILK, Stereofox, Acid Stag, and Indie Shuffle, and released via labels including Majestic Casual and Cascade Records, he keeps a steady stream of club-ready, sunlit productions from Brooklyn.
